Honoree: Joyce Appleby, Historian
Joyce Appleby is professor emeritus at UCLA where she taught for 20 years. She has written on early modern France, England, and the United States. Her recent publications include Inheriting the Revolution: The First Generation of Americans, Thomas Jefferson, and The Relentless Revolution: A History of Capitalism. In addition to LAANE, Ms. Appleby is an avid supporter of the ACLU, the Liberty Hill Foundation, and the L.A. Food Bank.
Keynote Speaker: Lisa See, Writer and Novelist
Lisa See is author of New York Times bestsellers On Gold Mountain, Flower Net, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, Peony in Love, Shanghai Girls and most recently, Dreams of Joy. Ms. See was the Publishers Weekly West Coast Correspondent and has written articles that have appeared in Vogue, Self, and More. Ms. See was honored as National Woman of the Year by the Organization of Chinese American Women in 2001 and was the recipient of the Chinese American Museum’s History Makers Award in Fall 2003.
