On Monday, February 25, 2008 the Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners approved the Air Quality Study, a landmark study which will identify the sources of pollution and how much the airport is emitting on the surrounding communities around the airport including Lennox, Inglewood and South LA.
This study, which is the most comprehensive in the nation, is part of the $500 million agreement that was won in 2005 by LAANE and the LAX Coalition for Economic, Environmental and Educational Justice.
Maria Verduzco-Smith, member of the LAX Coalition as well as Lennox School Board member said, "This is a long-time coming, I have lived in Lennox for over 30 years and we are now seeing the benefits of all our hard work. We have worked on getting this study approved, making sure that the plan is right for 3 years now."
