Long Beach Candidates’ Forum to Feature Nine City Council Candidates

Incumbents and Challengers to Answer Questions on Good Jobs, Development, Governmental Accountability

In a forum sponsored by the Long Beach Coalition for Good Jobs and a Healthy Community, nine candidates, including incumbents, will answer questions clarifying their positions on issues of importance to the Long Beach community.

When:
6:00pm - 8:00pm, February 18, 2010

The Neighborhood United Methodist Church, 507 Pacific Avenue, Long Beach, CA 90802

Who:
Candidates for Long Beach City Council (see list below), community groups and residents of Long Beach.

Background

In anticipation of the Long Beach City Council elections on April 13, the Long Beach Coalition for Good Jobs and a Healthy Community is sponsoring a candidates’ forum that will allow candidates to speak directly with constituents about the issues that concern our community. The forum is co-sponsored by the Center for Community Engagement, Housing Long Beach, the Women’s Democratic Study Club, the Immigrant Rights Coalition and Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice.

Candidates will answer questions clarifying their positions on issues of importance to Long Beach. The candidates attending are as follows: Jana Shields, Dist. 1; Tom Marchese, Dist. 3; Gerrie Schipske, Dist. 5; Jack Smith, James Johnson, Tonia Reyes and Jim Hill, Dist. 7; and Steve Neal and Dan Pressberg, Dist. 9.
