Jon Zerolnick

As a researcher, Jon likes data more than most people. He joined LAANE in 2006 with a focus on the environmental and economic impacts of port trucking.  In his seven-plus years as a researcher on – and then director of – LAANE’s Clean and Safe Ports project, Jon authored reports including The Road to Shared Prosperity and Foreclosure on Wheels, and developed expertise on independent contractor misclassification. In 2013, Jon became LAANE’s research director; he subsequently examined Hollywood’s abuse of session musicians in Keeping the Score. Prior to joining LAANE, Jon organized and researched in the labor movement for a decade, with a focus on the hotel/casino, agricultural, and airport services industries.  Jon has also waited tables, washed dishes, built minivans, worked retail, taught undergraduates, cleaned floors, tested drugs, sold knives and dealt poker. He has been a member, variously, of the unions HERE, UAW, CWA and IWW. He lives in Northeast L.A. with his wife and various tuxedo animals.
