Roy Samaan joined the LAANE team in 2014 as a Research and Policy Analyst with the Raise LA campaign and remained with that campaign through the successful passage of the Hotel Worker Living Wage Ordinance. His current focus is on understanding the hospitality market in the Southern California region, studying how the sharing economy impacts this market and on providing strategic policy analysis to the ongoing citywide minimum wage campaign. Prior to working at LAANE, Roy was a Research Analyst with Unite-Here Philadelphia where he tracked new developments in the hospitality industry in the Philadelphia, Baltimare, MD, and Pittsburgh, PA markets.
Roy received his Master’s in Urban and Regional Planning from the Luskin School of Public Affairs at UCLA (2011) and his Bachelor’s in History and LGBT Studies, also from UCLA (2006). As a Southern California native, he loves getting off the beaten path and exploring some of the hidden gems that make this area such a fascinating and wonderful place to call home.
