Prior to joining LAANE, Alma was an Apprentice Researcher with the AFL-CIO’s Immigrant Organizing Project where she conducted corporate research in the construction industry focusing on the boom taking place in Downtown Los Angeles and looking at its impact on immigrant construction workers. Prior to that, she worked at the UCLA Labor Center’s Dream Resource Center where she worked on issues impacting undocumented immigrant youth and students. She has a double BA from UC Riverside and a Master’s from CSU Long Beach. Alma grew up in the low-income, immigrant neighborhood of Pico-Union in Los Angeles where she witnessed her family and community undergo many workplace injustices and wage theft. These experiences have influenced her to contribute to research and organizing efforts to build worker power and win justice for workers in Los Angeles.
