Los Angeles Premiere of Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price
In conjunction with Robert Greenwald’s Brave New Films, LAANE put on another sold-out event in November, hosting the premiere of Greenwald’s new film Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price. The documentary examines the devastating effects of the world’s largest corporation on the lives of working families, highlighting Wal-Mart’s strong-arm efforts to build a supercenter in Inglewood, which LAANE was instrumental in defeating through the Coalition for a Better Inglewood. Numerous elected officials joined hundreds of community leaders, entertainment industry figures, workers and members of the public for the screening at the Writers Guild Theater in Beverly Hills, which was sponsored by WakeUpWalMart.com.
Producer/director Greenwald – well-known for his numerous documentaries and feature films including Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch’s War on Journalism, Unprecedented: The 2000 Presidential Election and The Crooked E: The Unshredded Truth About Enron – generously donated the proceeds of the premiere to LAANE. Working with the Brave New Films team was a pleasure and a wonderful learning experience for LAANE staff as we continue to broaden our base and reach out to entertainment industry activists such as Greenwald.
